On October 4, we had a great evening in Sedona’s Explorers Club Live Event “From the Edge of Space to the Depths of the Ocean”!
I spoke about the progress in exoplanet discovery and characterization, and the technological advances that set us on a trajectory toward an exciting future: the Pandora SmallSat (which we are launching in January!) and the Nautilus Space Observatory project, where we are making excellent progress on the development of a disruptive space technology to drive down the cost and shorten the schedule for building large space telescopes.
I was fortunate to present together with the amazing Samantha Schwann, international award-winning underwater explorer and artist. Sam detailed her fantastic underwater expeditions and shared beautiful and surprising underwater videos. She also revealed that sharks are attracted to music – and prefer AC/DC to Bach!

The event was held in the Sedona Film Festival‘s Mary D. Fisher Theatre. We had a great crowd! So many smart questions – many members of the audience stayed for an hour after the end of the show.
This was a kick-off event for The Explorers Club Southwest Chapter’s new lecture series. We plan to bring the series to Tucson and Santa Fe next, covering exciting topics from Southwest explorers!
Many thanks to the organizer, Christopher Formant and Patrick Schweiss and his Sedona Film Festival team for the logistical and AV support! Our event was covered in the Sedona Red Rock News.
